Gaushala and cattle protection
A cow stops producing milk long before she stops needing food. That gap is the whole reason gaushalas exist, and it is why the ones that survive are the ones that plan for fodder rather than hope for it.
We keep cattle that nobody else will — old, injured, abandoned on roadsides after they stopped being productive. Each animal gets shelter, feed, water and veterinary attention for the rest of its life.
We grow our own fodder where we can and run biogas from what the shelter produces, which cuts the running cost per animal and makes the shelter less dependent on donations arriving every month.
How the programme works

Questions about this programme
Can I sponsor a specific cow?
Yes. Annual sponsors are told which animal they support, with a photograph and a health update twice a year. You are welcome to visit.
What happens to the cattle when they die?
They are disposed of respectfully and in accordance with local law. We do not sell any part of any animal, alive or dead — that is a condition of how the shelter operates.
