Disaster rescue and relief
The first six hours of a flood are decided entirely by what was already in the district. Equipment despatched from a state capital after the water rises arrives to do recovery, not rescue.
So we pre-position. Boats, life jackets, ropes and communication equipment stored in the districts that flood every year, with local volunteers trained to use them and a chain of command agreed with the district administration before the season.
Relief follows rescue: dry rations, tarpaulin, clean water, medicines and cash for households that lost everything. Rebuilding follows relief, and that is the part most responders leave before.

Questions about this programme
Do you work with the government during disasters?
Always. Freelance rescue effort gets in the way and sometimes gets people killed. Our teams operate under the district administration and alongside NDRF and SDRF, with the arrangement agreed before the season.
Can I volunteer for rescue work?
Yes, if you can commit to training and to being available in season. Swimming ability and physical fitness matter, and the training is genuine, not a one-day orientation.
